Welcome to the NEW Jeff Davis Parish Online Community.
Jeff Davis Online - The Jeff Davis Parish Online Communication Hub since 2003

Now this little piece of news should get your day going in the right direction ... <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> JDO; WASHINGTON, D.C.
Last Tuesday, President Bush got off of the helicopter in front of the White House & he was carrying a baby piglet under each arm. The squared away marine guard snaps to attention, salutes, and says, “Nice pigs, sir!.”
The president replies, “These ain't just pigs, soldier, these are authentic Arkansas Razorback Hogs! I got one of these for Senator Hillary Clinton and I got one for Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi!.”
The squared away marine again snaps to attention, salutes, and says, “That was a great trade, sir.”

This English teacher has phrased it the best.
Tomatoes and Cheap Labor
CHEAP TOMATOES?
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent
From a California school teacher - - -
"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:
I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic
and income levels
Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.
Note: THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ADDRESSING TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR ANY PARTY. 'AND WHEN THEY LIE TO US AND DON'T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AT ONCE!'

5 Ways to Prevent Diabetes
from Lifestyles online
Sunday, February 24, 2008
We have such an epidemic of diabetes now and it is growing by leaps and bounds everyday. Unless we make ourselves knowledgeable about the disease so that we will prevent rather than control when we develop the disease, we will succomb to the epidemic which will far more outstanding repercussions of any epidemic known to man yet. Read on for suggestions on preventing the disease before you become part of the statistics!
Jumping on your bike or going for a jog can do more than just burn calories and boost energy levels. And cutting back on fast food and saying “Yes!” to coffee is more than just a dietary choice. This strange mix of variables can also help you fend off the most common form of diabetes…
Diabetes can strike at any age. And with the rise of obesity in the United States, the number of people with preventable diabetes is soaring. A staggering 21 million American children and adults – 7% of the nation’s population – have diabetes, contributing to 225,000 deaths annually. The economic impact – around $132 billion per year – is also alarming. And nearly one-third of diabetics – around 6 million people – don’t even know they have the disease.

Our family dog got out of the fence on Saturday 2/16 in the vIcinity of 5th and Sherman Street in Jennings, LA. A white female with short blond hair was seen leading him away by the collar on Sunday 2/17 in this area. He is a reddish brown (with some white and tan) Australian shepherd, approx. 40 lbs and he is 11 years old. He does not have a tail. His name is Garrick and we miss him terribly. He is microchipped and was wearing a collar with tags. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Garrick or the identity of the woman seen leading him away on Sunday, please email at: aussie@suddenlink.net or call: .....
Note: To my past, oh Lord, I pray for Thy Mercy
To my present, Thy Love
And to my future, dear Lord, Thy Providence.

I have not written for some time because of illness, which has given me time to reflect on my years in medical practice and my life in general. I offer this as a reflection on "Time". 2/17/2008
*
"TIME"
The definition of time is “ a period during which an action, process, or condition exists, or continues”.
“Time” is that exciting period for the young couple when their first child is born and their lives are changed forever. For the newborn, his introduction into a world where he has no control, and for the present, is completely dependent on others for his or her survival. That newborn, also has been given all bad personality traits, which must be overcome, if adulthood later is to be acceptable and successful. The temper tantrums, constant need for attention, insistence on instant gratification of all needs, always wanting to be the center of attention; these traits can only be tolerated by society for a limited time period.

More news on Diabetes - what we can or cannot eat or drink or do or think it sometimes appears. New studies and revelations are being done all the time and as the results come in, they are made known to us, the public. Some we accept with a grain of salt, others may seem legitimate, but upon closer inspection, the end results are not well grounded in scientifically proven research. That is when you turn to healthcare professionals to delve into all the material that is out there and summarize it into scientifically proven, language that we can enjoy. The following is such an article bringing new information to the forfront regarding diabetes. It seems as if we are bombarded with information about diabetes and the complications which develop. Without good medical care by a trusted healthcare professional knowledgeable in diabetes, a person is sure to succomb to the ravages of the disease. Articles like you are about to read help us, with our healthcare professional, distinguish what literature we can trust and which ones we should avoid. Now for the article with it's full citation listed for credit to the study team.

WE are working closely with the ABC Resource Pregnancy Center in Lake Charles to open a satellite office here in Jennings. The Center offers free counseling to women and girls in the area that are or may be pregnant, as well as free pregnancy screenings, baby items, formula, diapers, etc. Right now the Center has offices in eight different parishes, and is looking to open locally to reach women in our community. The Center does not get any government grants or funding from entities that would restrict their work with the women. The ABC Crisis Pregnancy Center is a faith based organization that also looks to minister to the women with weekly Bible studies, and upon attendance, allows the women to earn vouchers to get items that WIC and other programs do not offer.

This site is exactly what I have been looking for to voice my opinion about the situation in Jennings, La. We find discussions throughout this site about both happy and sad events in Jeff Davis Parish. As I was browsing through, I couldn't seem to find one single article about these poor women who's lifeless bodies were dumped throught Jennings like worthless beings.
These girls deserve to have their stories voiced and so do the victims' families. I am the sister of the last girl to be found on May 12, 2007 ( the day before Mother's Day). Does that ring a bell? Surprisingly enough, it may not to some people becasue most seem not to care.

I do have to pass a story along to you all about one of our kittens we've been trying to find a home for for a couple of months.
This baby is a beautiful calico, prodominately black but with a good mix of gold and white too. It was born to a second time mom we call Rastine, a gray tabby (Bobcat lookin')we called Rastus till she had kittens. (we've only been right about 50% of the time about this male female thing. Well if I had nothing else to do I could probably work up to 80%. It's why I'm not a gynecologist today ) ... Well Rastine had six of her own and one all black kitten that showed up and adopted her as momma too. We found homes for all 7. The little calico was given to someone who took 2. I told them "Keep them in the box I gave you till you get home" ... Well. What do I know, they knew more than me. The litte calico got loose and they never could find it. ..... anyway, ?!?!

Hi everyone,
... I have a plea for help. I have been undermined by my own staff of 5+ years who sabatoged me in every way possible. They seem to have forgotten who took care of them and their family members for free for most of that time and was quite generous in their pay and time off.
A doctor from Moss Bluff wanted to buy my clinic until a local dr. talked to him and convinced him that he should pull out and not help me - so he did! Along with him went my entire staff who were all in agreement that I wouldn’t make it. With their “help” I almost did. Now my ex-office manager and nurse has gone behind me and gotten the police jury to hand over the jail for them to give medical care to the prisoners. This is a post that I have had for the last 6 years and she knew well and good that I enjoy what I do with the jail and needed that income. She had been get a stake in the jail while she was still working for me. So now I am trying to convince the police jury that they should reinstate me in that position – since they signed contracts a week before I was notified that I was terminated. I have cleaned up any problems which existed, I have done a good job for the last 6 years when no one else wanted the job – like I told them, the song “I was country when country wasn’t cool”, describes my situation because I was the jail provider when being connected with the jail wasn’t cool.

And Here's One of Those Lists You've Been Waiting On:
"Governmental Philosophies; The Definative Oxymoronic Conundrum"
(Not to be confused with the drug "OxyCondrum". Although you can easily be drug into these quotes they are definately not considered a "pain reliever"!)
Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
--- Ronald Reagan (1986)
If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free.
---- P. J. O'RourkeIf
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
-- Mark Twain.
We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.
